Biblical Citizenship Course Review – Week 1
by Lynda Keck
A half dozen RSF members will be wrapping attendance of an 8-week course developed by Patriot Academy called Biblical Citizenship. It has been hosted by Kendrick Davis at the Church for all Nations. We thought a brief synopsis of the weekly lessons might prove interesting and insightful for our membership. Each week, the course presents solid evidence from source documents – quoting our nation’s founding fathers and their prolific written histories. It is presented in lively video-based presentations created by Patriot Academy’s Rick Green and historian/author David Barton.
The first week is entitled “The Foundation” and covers the major biblical influences that formed the basis for citizenship in early America – eventually becoming the foundation early Americans relied on to author our founding documents. As laid out in Matthew 28:19-20, the great commission is to make disciples of all nations and teach them to obey everything Jesus commanded. Most of the early leaders of our nation were, in fact, men of God. The four aspects of faith are manifested in societies that value these facets: morality, education, law and liberty. Further, we were taught that morality is a standard not to be imposed externally by a king, tyrant or government; instead, it is to begin internally by a transformation of the heart. And, once you have good morality – only then can you make the other three facets come to fruition.
The founding fathers realized that man’s laws must line up under God’s laws and should be balanced on justice and mercy. We were treated to a video about the National Monument to the Forefathers (that still stands but is not often understood or visited by our citizens). It was completed in 1889 and lies in an out-of-the-way forested area outside Plymouth, MA. We were astounded to see how cleverly this monument is designed to leave us the blueprint of the values and truths the great people of that time wanted us to never forget or abandon. Liberty is our purpose, faith is our foundation, morality is our guiding principle, laws are our protection, education is our future, and liberty requires the full armor of God. The symbols and teachings of this monument are well worth a trip if you venture to the northeast in your future.
The final admonish of the first week’s class was this – “God has called us to rebuild the ideals of this monument into every aspect of culture and to restore these ideals to their maximum beauty and glory.”1
