How to Testify For or Against a Colorado Bill
Kathy Horsky was the guest speaker at the 2 April meeting. She is the legislative assistant to four CO Republican House members to include Ken Degraaf.
She provided a tutorial on how to testify in support of Republican bills and against Democrat bills.
Follow these steps to signup to testify before 1:30 the day the bill is reviewed:
– Visit Leg.colorado.gov.
– Session Schedule (under the three dashes if using a phone).
– Select House, Senate, or Full Schedule if you aren’t sure where the bill is being heard.
– Select the Committee.
– Select Public Testimony
– This will take you to the Welcome Page for Testimony Signup
– Select in person or remotely by Zoom.
– Complete the registration form.
If you are registering for the zoom call, you will need to listen for your name. When called make sure your mic is unmuted and begin your testimony.
She reviewed a couple bills on the docket for the week. Donna LaBelle read an example of her testimony on a previous bill. It is good to have your comments pre-written, but it isn’t necessary, you could just speak from the heart. You can also forward your written testimony to the members of the committee, but there is no guarantee that they will read it.
Our Republican legislators need our help to fight the bad bills by testifying.
Here is an example. The Democrats are planning to attack TABOR. This will be heard in the House Finance Committee on Monday, April 7th at 1:30. This is the shortcut to the signup page.
