School District 20 Straw Poll
By Nancy Murray
For the third cycle in a row, Advocates for D20 Kids, Moms for Liberty, and Culture Impact Team hosted a straw poll for D20 conservative candidates.
In previous years, there were more candidates than open seats, the Straw Poll meeting helped to narrow the number of conservative candidates to the number of available seats, a successful process that is recommended for every school district.
The Straw Poll offered an opportunity to hear from each candidate and vote for the best candidates. Only those with the highest number of votes proceeded to the ballot. This prevented the vote splitting and losing to a less desirable candidate.
This year District 20 has three very strong candidates running for the three open seats, so a vote was not needed at the straw poll. Each candidate provides unique qualifications and strengths.
Dr. Eddie Waldrup, a regular at the D20 School Board Meetings, is a child psychologist and Army veteran with a daughter still in high school
Susan Payne a D20 parent for 25 years has a law enforcement background to include being a detective. She helped write the “Safe to Tell” legislation and has advised schools, school boards (including D20), and the Attorney General on school safety. She was also on the Columbine Commission. Her husband is currently the head of D20 Security.
Brian Moody established the Advocates for D20 Kids and helped with the past two School Board elections getting a strong conservative majority on the Board. He is the brains behind the Straw Poll and highly regarded in the community.
With Amy Shandy and Derrick Wilburn already on the school board, we are very excited at the prospect of having five truly strong conservatives that will help D20 improve in all areas across the district.
