Jill Haffley HD16Jill Haffley: A Dedicated Candidate for House District 16 in Colorado SpringsJill Haffley HD16
Jill Haffley is stepping into the political arena as a candidate for House District 16 in Colorado Springs, bringing with her a wealth of experience and a commitment to service. With a robust background in education spanning 30 years, including 29 years in District 11, Haffley taught history at Coronado High School while also coaching three sports and overseeing student council activities.

As she embarks on her campaign, Haffley is reaching out to engaged Republicans who share her passion for Colorado. “Colorado needs leaders grounded in service, common sense, and accountability,” she asserts, emphasizing that government decisions directly impact families in real-time.
Haffley’s dedication to her profession was recognized when she received six teaching awards throughout her career, most notably the Rotary Diamond Award, which is unique in that only students can nominate candidates for it. She is particularly proud of a project she spearheaded, where students interviewed World War II veterans. The stories they collected not only brought history to life but also contributed to the National WWII historical archives in Washington, D.C.
Following her retirement, Haffley found herself compelled to speak out when the Colorado teachers union publicly opposed capitalism. This prompted her to write a letter that caught the attention of Sandra Bankus, a member of the D11 School Board, who encouraged Haffley to run for a seat on the board. After careful discussion with her family, friends, and God, Haffley agreed, laying out her terms: she aimed for all four conservative candidates to win, intended to raise $25,000 to run, and aspired to be the top vote-getter.
Successfully mobilizing her community, Haffley and the other conservative candidates emerged victorious, restoring a conservative majority to the board. Her leadership contributed to significant changes, including the termination of a 57-year-old union contract and the implementation of policies that directly benefited teachers and parents alike, such as a reduced legal liability insurance cost and parental consent for name changes.
Haffley believes that serving on a school board exemplifies true governance, focusing on effective budgeting and stewardship. She emphasizes the importance of limiting government involvement while ensuring sound decision-making, addressing public safety concerns, and advocating for parental rights. “Government exists to serve the people, not to manage or control them,” she stresses.
As she transitions from school board service to a bid for legislative office, Haffley expresses her determination and fire for public service. “I will stay and fight; I will be a thorn in somebody’s side. I am the candidate who can beat the Democrat,” Haffley confidently states, drawing from her experience in governance and her ability to connect with people across the political spectrum.
With the current incumbent, Rebecca Keltie, not seeking re-election, Haffley sees an opportunity to make Colorado more affordable by reducing taxes and fees. She is adamant about supporting law enforcement and advocating for the rights of families, viewing parental rights as essential in government discourse.
Haffley’s campaign is more than just about her; she believes it is a calling. “This isn’t about me; someone of higher value than me has asked me to run,” she notes. Though she has no intention of pursuing higher office beyond House District 16, she remains open to where her commitment to service may lead her.
With a focus on her priorities, Haffley asks for the support and trust of her community as she seeks to make a positive impact in Colorado. “What happens here will flow downhill,” she concludes, emphasizing her readiness to serve the state and its residents.
