Joe Woyte, Candidate for HD-14
By Nancy Murray
Joe Woyte, a candidate for House District 14 (HD-14), recently engaged with the Republican Strategy Forum to discuss his background, vision, and plans for the state. Woyte, a US Air Force Academy graduate of 1996, has a diverse professional background that includes financial planning and war planning during his time in the Air Force. After leaving the military, he transitioned into a role as a project manager for Honeywell, a defense contractor. Currently, Woyte is employed with SAIC, another defense contractor, which has agreed to grant him a leave of absence to fulfill his legislative duties if elected.
The HD-14 vacancy committee meeting, initially held on September 22, faced challenges for not adhering to state-level vacancy procedures, which mandate a minimum of 10 days’ notice. Additionally, two individuals were credentialed and allowed to vote despite their questionable legitimacy. In the disputed meeting, Woyte narrowly lost to Ava Flanell by a mere two votes. A new vacancy committee meeting has been scheduled for Saturday, October 11, at the Church at Briargate.
Politics is not just a career path for Woyte; it is also his hobby. He has been actively involved as a precinct leader since 2008 and has volunteered for organizations such as Liberty Score Card and Church Voter Guides. Woyte’s vision for the state focuses on the continued growth of the Republican party and the closing the primary.
Woyte has garnered endorsements from the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners and the Liberty Score Card. He proudly identifies as 100% pro-life. As a volunteer for the Liberty Score Card, he has reviewed thousands of Colorado bills, demonstrating his commitment to understanding and influencing state legislation.
During his interaction with the Republican Strategy Forum, it was suggested that Woyte watch or read “The Taking” and consider sponsoring legislation similar to a recent law passed by South Dakota to safeguard our money in the banks. Woyte has previously written a bill that would transition Colorado to permanent standard time, a change that can be implemented at the state level. While Colorado is part of a state compact to switch to daylight saving time, federal law must be amended to allow for this change.
In 2024, Woyte served as a delegate for Donald Trump and considers himself a student of free market economics. Other declared candidates for the HD-14 position include Ava Flanell and Josh Griffin, the latter of whom is also a candidate for governor.
In previous correspondence between Joe Woyte and the author, he identified his top priorities:
1. Public Safety
- Support law enforcement in locking up criminals, take on the fentanyl crisis and the modern slavery of human trafficking with tougher penalties and state-level enforcement.
- Defend the right of self-defense by repealing unconstitutional restrictions.
2. Fiscal Responsibility
- Defend TABOR to stop excessive taxes, fees, and deceptive budgeting.
- Demand fiscal accountability with full transparency in spending.
3. Make Colorado Healthy Again
- Protect health freedom by opposing medical / vaccine mandates and expanding health savings options, safeguard religious liberty and conscience rights from government overreach, and end state subsidies for junk food and other wasteful programs.
- End the disruptive semiannual daylight time clock change by moving to permanent mountain standard time.
4. Education & Parental Rights
- Champion educational freedom by empowering parents, school boards, and families with expanded school choice: tax credits and support for charter, private, and homeschool options; fully fund K–12 education by ending the “Budget Stabilization” shortfall.
- Keep ideological indoctrination like CRT out of Colorado public school classrooms.
5. Election Integrity & Accountability
- Strengthen election security with voter ID, proof of citizenship, and auditable paper ballots; ban ballot harvesting, clean the voter rolls, and restrict mail ballots to time-limited voter requests only.
- Require full forensic audits for elections using electronic systems.
6. Economic Growth & Infrastructure
- Support small businesses and free-market solutions to grow Colorado’s economy.
- Invest in infrastructure by fixing roads, securing the power grid, and incentivising the advancement of clean nuclear energy options.
7. Community Engagement & Government Transparency
- Keep voters informed by explaining legislative votes publicly.
- Don’t give the media a pass when they ignore overreach and abuses by the majority party.
