Ken Davis, El Paso County GOP Chair
By Nancy Murray
Ken Davis was elected as the new party chair just a few short months ago. He started the meeting by informing us of upcoming GOP events, including a dinner on June 26 with Erin Lee from Protect Kids Colorado, the Lincoln Day Dinner on August 18 with Congressman Jim Jordan as the guest speaker, and co-hosting the Young Republicans this Saturday to support the rising generation of Republicans.
Mr. Davis discussed the many challenges he is facing, including three critical resignations: Cami Bremer in County Commissioner District 5, Senator Paul Lundeen in Senate District 9, and, as of yesterday, the resignation of State Vice Chair Darrel Phelan.
We had previously discussed the strategy used by Cami Bremer to resign. She waited until HB25-1319 was signed by the Governor. The bill, which goes into effect immediately, requires that in the event of a vacancy, the vacancy committee must be convened within two weeks. The individual selected by the committee will fill the seat until a “primary election” can be held in November of an off- or odd-year election. Mr. Davis specifically noted that this is not considered a special election. The winner of that primary will then serve until the general election in the following even year.
The vacancy committee meeting for CCD5 will occur next week. Any precinct leader in CCD5 who did not receive the meeting notification by email should contact the GOP office.
The Senate District 9 seat follows the current vacancy process, which allows 30 days to convene a vacancy committee. This is because HB25-1315, which changes the vacancy process for state representative and senator positions, does not go into effect until 2027. Therefore, the person selected to fill the vacancy will serve until the general election in 2026.
Mr. Davis said they will be focusing on Precinct Leader training, with the first session scheduled for June 17 at 6:00 PM at Falcon High Prairie Library. Training sessions for other parts of the county will be announced soon.
There was a lengthy discussion about uniting the various Republican groups around a shared goal: winning elections. Right now, we are fighting among ourselves rather than with Democrats. We need to focus on taking power from the Democrats, rather than battling each other in public.
Mr. Davis emphasized that there is only one El Paso County GOP office—and he is the chair. He plans to meet with the State GOP Chair to reinforce this and gain her support. Litigation will be used only as a last resort.
He stressed, “No one has bought me. This is not a stepping stone to higher office. I did this because the Lord told me to do it. I love serving people!”
One of our attendees described Mr. Davis as “humble.” He shared some of his background, explaining that he moved from Wisconsin to Colorado in 2008 because God told him to. He believes it was to “save his boys.” Mr. Davis said God revealed to him that something great is going to happen in this nation, and it will start in Colorado. At a prayer conference last fall, he heard that Colorado is the highest point in the country and believes something will begin here and flow downhill. He feels we are on the cusp of something great—and he wants to be a part of it.
Mr. Davis believes his mission is to turn non-believers into disciples. He said he needs only 300 people to follow him in order to fulfill his mission, stating, “If you’re going to get on the bus—let me drive it.”
